Lake Ray Hubbard is one of the largest lakes in north Texas spanning 22,000 acres. This recreational lake is great for fishing, skiing, relaxing, and recreational boating. Numerous parks are located around the lake.

Lake Granbury is a North Texas reservoir near Granbury, Texas. It was created in 1969 and is one of three lakes damming the Brazos River. Lake Granbury is contained by the De Cordova Bend Dam and is a long, narrow lake, encompassed by 103 miles of shoreline.
Lake O’ the Pines is a reservoir on Big Cypress Bayou, also known as Big Cypress Creek, chiefly in Marion County, Texas. The reservoir also occupies a small part of Upshur and Morris Counties. The dam is located approximately 8.5 miles west of Jefferson.

Lake Austin, formerly Lake McDonald, is a water reservoir on the Colorado River in Austin, Texas. The reservoir was formed in 1939 by the construction of Tom Miller Dam by the Lower Colorado River Authority.
Toledo Bend Reservoir is a reservoir on the Sabine River between Texas and Louisiana. The lake has an area of 185,000 acres, the largest man-made body of water in Louisiana, the largest in the South, and the fifth largest in the United States. The dam is capable of generating 92 megawatts of electrical power.
Possum Kingdom Lake, is a reservoir on the Brazos River located primarily in Palo Pinto County Texas. It was the first water supply reservoir constructed in the Brazos River basin. The lake has an area of approximately 17,000 acres with 310 miles of shoreline.
Lake Whitney is a flood control reservoir on the main stem of the Brazos River in Texas. It is located on River Mile Marker 442 and controls drainage for 17,656 square miles of Texas and parts of New Mexico. The reservoir encompasses a surface area of more than 23,500 acres and 225 miles of shoreline.
Canyon Lake is a census-designated place in Comal County, Texas, United States. The population was 21,262 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Lady Bird Lake is a river-like reservoir on the Colorado River in Austin, Texas, United States. The City of Austin created the reservoir in 1960 as a cooling pond for a new city power plant. The surface area of the lake is 416 acres, and it is currently used primarily for recreation and flood control.
Caddo Lake (Lac Caddo in French) is a different type oflake than most of the Texas Lakes to the west. Caddo Lake is on the Texas/Louisiana border. Caddo lakecovers 225,400 acres of Cypress swamp and has an average depth of 8' 10" with the deepest water averaging about 20 feet.
Lake Marble Falls is a reservoir on the Colorado River in the Texas Hill Country in the United States. The reservoir was formed in 1951 by the construction of Max Starcke Dam by the Lower Colorado River Authority.
Northwest of Austin
Lake Cypress Springs is a 3,461-acre reservoir located in Northeast Texas, approximately 90 miles east of Dallas, Texas. The lake is used for recreational, municipal, and industrial purposes. The lake is regularly monitored by a lake patrol, which enforces wake zones, fishing licenses, boat dock rules, and boating.

Lake Buchanan was formed by the construction of Buchanan Dam by the Lower Colorado River Authority to provide a water supply for the region and to provide hydroelectric power. Buchanan Dam, a structure over 2 mi in length, was completed in 1939.

Lake Lyndon B. Johnson is a reservoir on the Colorado River in the Texas Hill Country about 45 miles northwest of Austin. The reservoir was formed in 1950 by the construction of Granite Shoals Dam by the Lower Colorado River Authority.
